the closest site is white's beach in manchester. Then Magniolia Rocks - whcih for a beginner should only be done in the calmest of conditions. PM me - I'm local and am looking for divers next weekend....

well right now I've got 6 inches on new snow on top of 36 inches. We're expecting another 18 by the time this ends tomorrow - but the weekend forecast is
Saturday...Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of snow. Highs in the lower 30s.

Sunday...Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 30s.

- snowshoes needed to get to the water ;)

At least we wouldn't have to worry about getting overheated in our wetsuits! MMerriman, What do you dive in this time of year? Dry suit? I'd like to get to the point where I dive year round, but don't think I'm quite tough enough to go in the water in January with nothing but a wetsuit on.

Kristopher,
the water temperature is 36 degrees, certainly in a wetsuit you will turn an ice cube :laughsnow:

Yes - I use a drysuit. You might last for a 30 minute dive in a wetsuit. I wouldn't plan on 2 dives though. We start open water checkout dives in May with students in wetsuits and the water isn't much warmer than now.

Which shops in our area sell dry suits/do training in diving with them? I'm a little leary about buying one, b/c I can't stand anything pressing on my neck, and they seem to be designed to do just that. How uncomfortable are they? I'd like to be able to try one out before I make any kind of commitment.

Thanks,

Kristopher

Wow... brings back memories... Used to dive there all the time in the early 90's. I was a beginner and didn't know any better but my training definitely made the difference. I remember one dive coming back in after we surfaced and the current was so bad we were hanging on lobster buoys to rest, making our way back one buoy at a time. Getting in and out can be tricky too... but that was one of my favorite places to dive. Go with someone who knows how to dive it.
