SIMILAN ISLANDS – UPDATE. The Similans National Park Office at Tapla Mu contacted the DOCT, to inform them the Similan National Park would be open from 10th July 03 onwards. The reason for this is that the Forestry Department Bangkok wanted all national parks, marine and land based, open all year round, this year, to recover revenue lost through the SARS outbreak and the Iraqi conflict.

I don't know yet if any trips are being planned, since several liveaboard operators already have schedules for summer trips to Hin Daeng and Phi Phi. With this news, some trips may well be available before October. This news came yesterday, so we'll have to see if anyone makes new plans....

Update:

We have heard from a couple of operators that they will run trips.

The liveaboards "KingFisher" and "Really Wicked Witch" will both run trips to the Similan Islands during the summer.

From Khao Lak, there are day trips with KonTiki Khao Lak, soon to be renamed IQ Dive.

All trips dependent on getting enough peopleand the weather. The liveaboards are OK if the seas are not calm. But the day trips are on a fast catamaran which can only run in good weather.
