While mechanical issues can occur I suspect their flood every trip a result of their "cavalier attitude."

Agreed. I have a well used Dx-1G camera that I will soon flog on ebay. Any interest?
 
Yeah its a good chance it was my fault. I opened the housing in a not very well lit room and something might have caused the seal to fail. Definitely going to take a closer look at my setup routine to weed out these completely avoidable mistakes.

In any case, I was fortunate that I noticed the flood early enough into the dive that the only thing wrong with the camera now is that the screen doesn't come on. The camera still powers on and shoots, the shots taken in this mode still can be exported properly. Seems like it might be fixable, so I might have dodged a bullet there.
