Not much of a problem at Coz because it's warm water diving so most people don't need much weight. But I've been places where the weights were only available in 1kg size and if you needed to fit 12-13kg into a W.I. BC to sink a thicker wet suit you had a problem.

There is absolutely no need to bring your own weights, unless you can't live without the soft weights, as I told you. I have a small variety of soft weights that are my personal weights. (2, 2#'ers, 4 3#'ers, and a couple of 1#'ers) If it is really important to you, you are welcome to use them. :)

We have standard lead weights in 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 pounders and we have PLENTY of them. I also have some 1# ankle weights for women with floaty feet :)

Your weight belt/pouches will be set up for you on the first day and adjusted accordingly. They will stay set up, on the boat securely locked up each night so that all we have to do in the morning is slide them into your BCD. You won't have to dig around for them or carry them back and forth.

See you in a few days :) I'll look forward to your call when you arrive :)

Thank you Christi and everyone! I won't bring my weights (the hubby will be happy about that one since he's the one who carries the heavy bags). It sure does sound a lot easier with Christi's dive op, than with the one in Cayman. I guess this is just the standard in Cozumel? Anyway, thank you so much for the help. Only 3 days until I'm there, and with parent conferences this week (I'm a fourth grade teacher) and some downright mean parents, I'm ready for some tropical paradise!

No, not exactly. It is standard to have tanks & weights provided with charters at many fly-in locales like Cozumel, however - I think you'll find this operations' valet service to far exceed many of the other operators there.

:cowboy2: have a great trip!

Don't assume whatever you see at a single op in Cozumel, Cayman, or anywhere else is "standard." Every operator is set up differently and has their own routine.

However, I would say that the availability of weights for free as part of the dive IS standard on Cozumel. I have been diving there for more than 10 years and I have never once seen or heard of that not being the case.

No,,,,,,,

What is the most important factor whenever you buy the scuba gear?

-Nice looking,
-Money value,
-Brand name,
or Comfort,

You should know the right answer. Like buying the gear, you invest your money for the trip. And, if you feel a discomfort, you can bring anything for your convenience. Nothing is silly. I think if you ruin your trip (dive) becuase of the hassle of getting the right weight, it is a silly trip.

Enjoy!!!

I'm not really clear on your point, but getting the right amount of lead to dive when one is on Cozumel is trivially easy.

yes, availability of weights is universal in any tropical location that people fly to. I was referring more to boat routines, whether you set your stuff up once and never touch it again, or however each place goes about it.

NO! You will have more fun if you leave the kids at home!

I always bring my own weights. I love not having to discuss how much weight I need/want. I float like a cork, then add a 7 mil suit & salt water to the mix...I need some weight. Before I started bringing my own, I had many DM's tell me I didn't need that much weight. Only to end up having them find large rocks for me to carry.
Do not bring your weights in your carry-on. TSA will not let you go on the plane with it.
