I am going to be setting up a pony/additional gas bottle. I have a 30 cu ft catalina tank to which I will attach a complete reg setup with a long hose and spg. I am looking to either buy or make a harness that would clip to the d-rings on my BCD. Similar to a sidemount system. I want to keep it readily accessible and easy to hand off if need be. Anyone know if or where they are sold or a do it yourself site? Thanks

What do you mean long hose? Most diver consider a long hose to be 5-7 feet. If thats what your considering I think its over kill for a pony but thats your decision. You can make a stage strap with a hose clamp, two bolt snaps, a hose retainer or some inner tubing and some line. Its pretty simple, you can probaly just find a picture online and copy it. As far as sidemount, I highly doubt youll get the cylinder to ride the same as a sidemount diver would unless you have a sidemount rig or highly modify your current BCD.

I am thinking that a 48" hose or in that neighborhood. Would be easier to hand off in an OOA situation due to the length. No difficulties handing it off left or right. It would be bungied when not in use. As far as having to modify my BCD, the rings that are there should work nicely.

If you search on "Stage bottle rigging" you can find commercial kits with everything you need.

Your rig will probaly be fine but slinging a stage/pony is not sidemount. If you want it to trim out like a sidemount cylinder youll have to modify your rig or get a sidemount rig.

Finished sling on Pony

DSC03258.jpgDSC03259.jpgWanted to show the completed product. I used a piece of 1/2 x 5/8" Tygon tubing over the hose clamp instead of nylon webbing. The tygon will not slide as easily and will afford more protection to the tank from the clamp. Thanks for the link. I have about $10 invested in clamp, snaps and tubing.:D

You didn't pay enough, you are going to die!

Just kidding, looks good!
