I have to say during night dives at Blue Heron Bridge I have been very happy with the police presence because it can be a bit nerve-racking gearing up there.

That's not a knife... :)

I found the knife buried in the sand on the beach at La Jolla shores in 1982 while on vacation. I decided to visit the closest dive shop to see if anyone had lost it. They said it was purchased the week before by someone taking their OW. The story from them was the visitor had a bad experience on his qual dives, came back and returned all the gear that he could, said "nuts to this diving thing" and went home to Minnesota.

They had the scabbard in the back and gave it to me.

I think I actually dove it twice, then bought a real knife, and put this one in the backup gear bag. I doubt its been in the water since 1983.
Love the story and knife pic!

The perfect knife for those days you suddenly realize you are diving in a bad neighborhood. I’m not talking about fending off aggressive lionfish, eels or sharks. I’m talking about “pre-dive” protection in West Palm Beach, Florida. This knife is very effective, that and a Glock....

That’s a cool old one!

From the top down.

That's a ruler :)

1. White Stag. My first knife from 1973 bought it used along with a full set of diving gear.

2. AMF Voit. Bought it used for $5 from a coworker 1978.

3. Dacor bought it while instructing for a shop that sold them in the '80ies when less was supposed to be more.

4. Ocean Master Beta titanium. Found it stuck in a reef in Florida. I needed a sheath for it so I searched the web. Found out this is an expensive item, the advertisement at the time mentioned the sheath and had this to say, "You won't lose this knife." .....too funny. Anyway, my first DIY job with a sewing awl produced the web belt sheath.

5. Chinese knockoff of a cool TUSA knife that was sold in the '80ies. Came as a gift with another item I bought on Flea Bay.

Here is an example of proper knife use when diving with friends. I brought a knife to a speargun fight.
