After losing my first float (don't use velcro on anything that needs to stay put), I'm taking a lesson from GoPro: I picked up some 3M VHB bonding tape (the same kind they use for the helmet and floaty attachments) and let it cure for the full three days.

The new float is just a tad positive on the surface; we'll see if it changes buoyancy at depth, but the tape is strong - the plastic backdoor will probably break off its hinge before the tape gives.

Yes. Its better then the cheaper monopod I have. The cheaper ones, the ball joint get rusty after 1 dive. These does not.
I would suggest getting the longer one. `big u-shot??` as its easier to manage when diving.

If you can get your hands on it, try the 3M Dual Lock Tape. It's like a modern re-designed velcro. One of my colleagues uses it to fasten cameras to rally cars. It won't fail and being plastic both sides is unaffected by water.

I've bought a small roll of the same 3M tape used on the GoPro mounts to replace mine instead of getting new mounts.

Made it from parts I had laying around from a G11 project.



And my helmet mount.



Still waiting on a SD card from GP. Save me $20 vs best buy but may end up having to go buy one locally if it does not come before Thursday.

Can't wait to to get back in the water next weekend and try it!!!

I actually was using 3m dual lock, that's what failed. I think the surface area was too small for the dual lock to make a firm bond against something that gets knocked around a bit.

Awesome, thanks for the link! I had to search high and low for a small quantity. I found some 1" x 6' x .41mil, which I found is actually quite a bit thinner than the vhb GoPro uses. I would say the GoPro version is at least 0.8-1.0 mil thickness; hopefully there's not a lot of difference in bonding strength though.

I wanted to build something, and needed lights for our night dives so I ended up constructing these guys from scratch. Not ideal (I'll probably end up tossing them in the bin) but they do the job!
