Hey ScubaKev!
Just wanted to say THANKS for the awesome diving with Splashdown in and around Boynton Bch. and - you're SO right...the diving there beats the Keys hands down. Healthier reefs and LOTS more critters.
So, my http://MarineBio.org partner-in-crime David and I spent Feb. 10-18 diving with Kevin and the Splashdown crew out of Boynton Beach and, in spite of a few days of low viz and cold surface temps - the diving was excellent. The first photo on this post in the MarineBio forum: http://207.114.164.75/forum/viewtopic.php?t=418 was taken at a dive site off Delray Beach (I think - ScubaKev, you may remember where we saw the spotted eagle ray+dolphins).
The other 2 photos on that post were taken in Key Largo at French Reef, which was a nice site, but overall the coral and sponge color and abundance of marine life was more impressive off the coast of Boynton/Ft. Lauderdale, which is where we saw: lots of nurse sharks, loggerheads, hawksbills, a spotted eagle ray, a pod of dolphins, lots of green morays, scorpionfish, lobsters, schools of reef fishes - grunts, angelfish, butterfly fishes, sargeant majors, cowfishes, triggerfish, filefish, parrotfish, snappers, groupers..large schools of great barracudas etc. etc.
In Key Largo we dove many of "the usual" sites - Benwood wreck site, City of Washington, Spiegel Grove, the Elbow, Grecian rocks, and French Reef, where we saw many of the same species, but they were far less abundant. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the diving in the Keys as well, although I have to say that we had a much better experience with Splashdown divers and ScubaKevDM :luxhello: than we did with the DS we dove with in Key Largo.
David and I look forward to our next visit to the Ft. Lauderdale area - which will hopefully be a one-way trip. Anyone hiring writers/editors?
