Is it better to remove the CR2 battery from the Shearwater transmitter if it isn't going to be used for a few weeks? I don't want the battery to leak, but I don't like opening and closing the battery case a lot to protect the o-ring.

Any thoughts?

A few weeks? No.
A few months, yes.
Some batteries are worse than others about leakage.
Cheap EverReady's, for example.
Or anything Chinese generic.

Just screw the cap on very slowly when each oring engages the lip of the case. And this is one time when silicone is better than Christolube.

I disagree with the above. Alkaline batteries MUST be removed from a device. A lithium CR2 does not leak like the alkaline batteries do. You're ok to leave the battery in the transmitter for extended periods.
I agree with the o-ring lubrication.
