I am going to be taking it to the next level soon (getting instruction for planned deco and wreck). On my doubles, I now use Scubapro Mk25AF/S600 with an R380 as my primary with a Mk25/R380 as my secondary. I am thinking about trading to Apeks XTX200 for both primary and redundant regs. Any thoughts? Good Idea? Not so smart?

I also have this question posted on the regulator forum, but I wanted to bew sure that I got wreck divers' input, also.

I hear XTX is the way to go. My LDS said that XTX50 may be easier for hose routing on doubles.
Your scubapro configuration is supposed to be quite good as well, not how much will be gained in the switch, but if it makes you more comfortable and you have the money then giddy-up!

I'm not a wreck diver, but I think you should probably save your money. I'd be surprised if you notice any difference.
If you've got your heart set on Apeks, I'd recommend the DS4 xtx50 setup. From the reading I've done this seems to be the most popular with tech divers. From everything I've heard, there is absolutly no difference in the breathing characteristics of an xtx50 and an xtx200, so why spend extra for the 200s?

If you just want new regs, then the apex are an upgrade IMO. But that's only due to a bit cleaner configuration with doubles. But there is really no performance difference to speak of, and based on the amount of new equipment you'll surely buy as a result of the classes I'd upgrade those regs last.

In terms of gear, wreck diving just requires that you focus on streamlining a bit more and eliminating the danglies. Which of the better regs you choose won't much play a role in that.

If you're asking the question, then you shouldn't.

Your self doubt, in and of itself, answers the question.

Old age brain fart. I had been reading another thread and did an inadvertent cross over.

To use the great quote from "Saturday Night Live" from so many, many, many years ago . . .

NEVERMIND !!!

(Unfortunately, as I get older and older, you'll be seeing many more of these until such time NetDoc puts me out to pasture. Breathing 100% O2 isn't such a bad thin(above 20', that is). And, besides, I like tapicoa pudding)

The Mk25s have very clean hose routing and very high flow capabilities. I would keep those. You won't find a better breathing 2nd than the S600 anywhere. The R380 sucks (I have one), trade that in for a R190.

Do not use piston regs like the mk25 in water colder than 42F or so. But you avoid IP creep issues in many diaphrams regs by sticking with the mk25s. If you ice dive or dive in the great lakes I would switch to a sealed diaphram like the apeks.
