Best diver I've ever been diving with was a horrible speller, also an SB member. Actually met here on SB and he was the exact opposite of what his typing style implied. Only went diving a few times, but I learned a heck of a lot about diving from him. He's a commercial diver, btw.

I'd give him a chance. Grammar and punctuation rules can go out the door when it comes to email, especially if the person is older and/or has little experience with computers. This should be no reflection on his dive skills. Now if he does something silly or stupid while diving with him, that's a whole different story.
