I know that shore diving is illegal in Illinois (except for two sites), but is shore diving illegal in Indiana?

I'm thinking of a wreck that is in 8 ft of water.

WHY is shore diving against the law ANYWHERE? Here in Michigan, the water is mostly public domain, so as long as you aren't parked in a no-parking zone, you are free to dive the water. The exception is some privately held lakes and such, but any lake that has a public access (and MOST do) is available to dive.

Just a simple question, NOT an attack on you or your state....curious what the reasoning was/is.

Do you mean Lake Michigan?

I don't think it's any kind of Il law but in Chicago either the city or the parks or whoever controls the lake front doesn't allow diving in most places.

Inland lakes and rivers are fair game as far as I know.

Yes, Lake Michigan. In Indiana, there are few lakes/rivers with enough vis or public access to dive safely in.

I've read that shore diving is illegal in Chicago from a BOAT CHARTER web site. I didn't know if it was a city or a state regulation. Recently it struck me that the same rules don't necessarily apply for Indiana.

Some wrecks definitely need a boat charter. There is one wreck, which is just offshore in 8ft of water, that does not. I'm not trying to take business away from boat charters, but it would be nice to be able to dive Lake Michigan without the hassle of owning a boat or waiting for a boat charter.
