my skinny nephew had a heart attack at 20 playing basketball, (undiagnosed heart weakness) and was saved by the AED, and a trained rescuer!

"heart attack" is a term that gets used a lot, often interchangeably with "cardiac arrest". When younger people experience a cardiac event it's usually due to undiagnosed structural problems in the heart or its associated circulation, infection, or prolonged QT syndrome. An actual heart attack(MI, or myocardial infarction) is more common in folks my age, and is a result of a blockage in the coronary arteries, causing damage, irritability, and ultimately death of the cardiac muscle due to lack of oxygen. (Often a vessel will become partly blocked with plaque over a period of time, and then something happens which causes a clot to form on top of it, forming a sudden complete blockage.)
