Singapore(AP) A ship carring 4,000 cars sank after colliding with an oil tanker just sout of Singapore, authorities said Sunday.

The collision betweenthe tanker MT Kaminesan carrying nearly 279,950 tons of crude oil, and and car carrier Hyundai occurred late Saturday night, the maritime and ports authority said.

"Prior to the collision, warnings weregiven to the two vessels by the MPA's vessel traffic information service. The two vessels also communicated with each other", it said in a statement.

The accident occurred four miles southeast of the resort island of sentosa authorities said.

All 20 crew members of the Hyundai were rescued before it sank, the authority said. There was no immediate leak of oil from the Panam-registered Kaminesan, Maritime and Ports Authority spokeswoman Theresa Pong said.

She said both ships were transiting through the city-state, one of the worlds busiest ports.

Another dive site maybe ? would be intresting with 4,000 cars on it.

Thank God that all were rescued. It is much better that the oil tanker did not sink and spill its cargo in the ocean. I assume that this was in the shipping lanes and too deep for any future diving?

Yea think goodness tat the oil tanker did not spill and all the ppl were rescue. So when can we dive in and look at the wreck? How deeps is the water there?

New wreck diving coming up, Cant wait to see what depth of water its in

Ship is in 50m of water. The problem will be that the visibility in the Singapore Straites is basically zero. I can't see my feet in it, and I'm not tall.

Surely there's going to be a big salvage operation on a ship of that size?

Anyway, glad to hear the crew escaped and no oil was spilt! I'd love to dive on that ship though!

Not necessarily. If there's no money to be gained through salvage and no hazmat issues, it might just be cleared to a given depth.
