I don’t think it can travel that far in the case but ???
Can you put the barrel back in the case and see what happens with the full range of adjustment?

Without diaphragm and cover in place?
 
Yes so we can see what happens.
interesting with the barrel in the case and no change to adjustments, it leaks violently.

It did stopped leaking and the lever did drop.

Ok, bad memory confirmed, can the leak stay stopped as the lever comes back up?
