Even though I am new to diving, I think I can shed a little light here. I read that with the dry bleed system you only loose enough air for about three breaths during the coarse of a dive. You must leave your tank on for a very long time to see major effects. This bleeding of air is not to prevent free flows. It is used as a buffer between the damaging affects of dirty/salt water and the components of the regulator that are measuring the ambiant pressure.
I use the Maximus as the main reg and a brut for the pony.I love the features of the maximus but would not want to breath from the brut for a long time. My Two Cents....He says as he dons his flame retardant suit.

BadFish,

Barbara and I have been using the Oasis for 2+ years now and are very satisfied with them. We have taken them down to over 130 feet numerous times and have had no trouble breathing with them. We are warm water divers (I call us "candy as_" divers) and have not had to confront breathing cold, deep water.

We both like the Oasis "heat exchanger" that captures some of the exhaled moisture and helps to avoid dry mouth.

Hope this helps....

What does it cost you every year for Maintance?

BadFish,

My last service bill(2/15/01) for my Oasis, including replacement gaskets, etc., was $58.00.

Whats the warrenty like? lifetime? 2 year? was your last service under warrenty?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks

BadFish,

When we bought ours--about three+ years ago--Sherwood issued a two year limited warranty. I had the first annual done at my expense because nothing had failed and I wanted it done. We do about 75 to 100 dives a year and I am very conservative on equipment maintainance.

Hope this helps...

I believe that the warenty is two years from the manufacturer. My LDS did not make me pay for the first two years of service but that could be an LDS thing. My LDS also adds an extended warrenty for the life of the reg as long as I own it and have it serviced anually.

When you purchase your reg it should have two plstic rings on the hose cover. Each time you take your reg in for service they remove one of the rings. Once the rings are gone I would think the warrenty is over.

Diverl,

You have a great LDS! But the Sjherwood warranty quite plainly states that parts will be replaced only if defective. Oh yes, the warranty only covers parts, not labor. The labor on my annual is about $45, I think.

The plastic rings are really only for ident purposes and go on and off very easily! Warranty service requires a receipt according to Sherwood.

Again, you have a great LDS--a real keeper!

Now you guys have me curious.... anyone else care to share how much an annual service on your reg costs? It's $69 at my LDS, and now I'm thinking that's a bit high...

Sweet, thanks Diverl. Good to hear of your positive experiences with the Maximus. I was beginning to think that apeks and poseidon were the only 2 types of regs being used out there.
