Both bcd's are well consctructed units but I find the Sherwood bcd to fit me a little bit better. It seems to be constructed a little more with convenience and common sense in mind. I've had mine since the newer CQR2 system came out and after several years of use it still looks very new and is in great shape.
I've used it here in California and have travelled with it and haven't found any issues there either. It packs well and is comfortable in the T-shirt I wore diving in the Caribbean.
Take the Avid! You won't be disappointed.
