As far as shark attacks and fatalities, my small bit of the central coast(guadalupe-Avila) had never had any fatalities do to a shark attack. I am probably more at risk of injury everytime I open a beer, or my mouth for that matter, but that does not stop me from doing either. Even after multiple injuries I might add:D
Recent circumstance has just made people more aware and more interested in sharks(myself included). Luckily Great Whites are protected in Ca and people wont be able to start killing them at random. Although that does not protect them from Hollywood exploitation films.
Thanks for the interesting topic.

mgri... shark attacks in some areas may occur largely in shallow water (especially on sandy beaches), but given our kelp forests in deeper waters here we rarely see great whites deep inside them. Vis has been better in the shallower waters (unlike the usual pattern). Besides, our vicious territorial male garibaldis would chase them away anyway.

Bullsh*t !!!! The vast majority of missing swimmers and divers in the CA region are the result of shark attack. Look at nature. Are you kidding me? Your bias does not line up with the law of averages. Do you catch fish if you have bait on your hook? Just because you want to enjoy the ocean, doesn't mean that you should lie to yourself and others in order to make yourself more confident. Call it like it is and dive in or don't. Take an equalizer and admitt the risk and go. We are the highest on the food chain whether in the water or out. If you disagree with that last statement, then I bet you aren't overcoming many other issues in your life, are you? That is, that involve something other than yourself alone.

 Uh.....troll, or just nuts? I suppose it'd be asking too much for you to support ANY of this vitriolic dribble with facts? Even make something up? "I own a 90' yacht, and I do nothing but drive up and down the coast, looking for solo swimmers so I can watch them get eaten..."

Put the coffee cup down, and back away slowly... :D

Nevermind, I just read your other posts. You're an idiot, who's attempting to troll.
