Hrm. First post and its with a video of a shark kill posted in the wrong subforum entirely. I smell a troll.

By the way, matt. I found your myspace page.

I found videos where you are caring for baby bunnies so you are probably a decent guy. Dusky sharks have a very long maturity rate and the one that drowned aboard your ship was very young. The sort of people who read this particular subforum feel the same way about that pup of a shark that you might about the bunnies you tend.

The main threats to dusky sharks are overharvesting and bycatch. In the U.S. they were declared overfished in 1993. In 2006, the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) completed a stock assessment that found the species was at 20 percent of virgin biomass. Commercial and recreational fishing has been prohibited in the U.S. since 1998, but over 2,000 were caught recreationally in 2003. A time/area closure was implemented in North Carolina in 2005.

The OP must not have been lurking long enough to sense that many of us feel very protective towards sharks. They aren't as cuddly as bunnies or kittens, but they are far more important to natural ecosystems than either of those.

So far all the Sharks I have come across are nice and cuddly!
You just can't help but love them! Especially when they smile!

Happy diving and protecting my sharks!

You should check out the vid of a surfer in florida cast out bait, and the shark took him out to the waves, and he let the pole go and rode the wave in.

Just heard of another fatal shark attack on a surfer near Ixtapa (same general areas as the last one). I guess they aren't cute and cuddly if you're a surfer.
