Fricking politiks!@*%

Depends upon priority given to tourism and the environment. For sure, people ignoring these things are taking big risks with voters.

Also, we divers can do something to lobby (as in this case).

From our experience, it just depends upon how far you want to put yourself out/stick your neck out.

Here in Southern Philippines, there are a few very good people who make up 90% of conservation efforts - no real tourism/dive tourists to use to back you up.

As a group of people, we divers are quite a powerful lot and can/should lobby politicians to raise our concerns re shark. Now the net is linking us and politicians are becoming concerned - more so since many politicians/their friends enjoy scuba diving themselves.

Sure that plenty people on this forum have very good connections and are feeding views to those who care/want or ,indeed, need votes.

It is not just politics huisen. Can you tell what have be done from diver clubs in Malayasia against shark fining? There are so many dive clubs and they have to act.

How about this? A petition to UN http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/endsharkfinning International "pressure". Will also post in the marine conservation sub forum, if it is not there yet...
