Shark reg attack 2b.jpg

This unusual occurrence was captured on two GoPro cameras carried by each of the husband-wife dive team. One of the wife's regulator hoses was severed and apparent taken away by the shark as it bolted by. The shark showed up twice in the clip.

Has anyone heard of this sort of thing before? I have seen lots of sharks outside of Keys wrecks but few within the interior compartments. How common is it for them to be seen inside the wrecks? Lastly, if this happened to you, what might go through your mind? It is a good thing this diver team had their act together, stayed calm and avoided a serious accident.

It says video unavailable when I went through the link.

Link works now. Scroll all the way down. The TV commentators clearly don't understand diving very well.

Good job on staying cool under fire.

I just shifted from a private server to a collective one as a result the site has been going down at times tonight. Should have it sorted out with the provider by tomorrow. I am normally on the outside of these wrecks free diving, in recent years anyway, as opposed to frequent interior penetrations. Have folks seen many free swimming sharks in wreck interiors? I would reason not but sharks may not do that much reasoning themselves. I agree, the couple reacted very well to some particularly shocking circumstances out of left field.

It's hard to tell what type of shark it is, it's moving so fast. I've heard of sharks being seen both in and around wrecks off Key Largo. Bull Sharks and Nurse Sharks are most common but this looked almost like a white tipped reef shark but they aren't found in the keys. It doesn't really look like a nurse or a bull either. It appears it just got spooked when it came across the diver in such close quarters and may have made a defensive nip.

The question is, was the diver's hose actually bitten or is there a bit of hyperbole going on here? I definitely see a slender, modest sized shark zipping in and out but I don't see it bite anything or make contact with either diver. Doesn't look like an aggressive species. Hmmm...

Anyone else see the problem with the idea of permanently mounting a light to your hand in this video?

I guarantee that diver couldn't see squat after getting blasted directly in the eyes with that light multiple times. I'm happy they came out fine, but being blinded by your buddy in an emergency situation is something that can cause someone to panic in a hurry.

Same problem occurs with the mask mounting techniques with lights. At best it drives your buddy nuts cause every time you look at them they're blinded.
