I felt Shadow Divers was an amazing book for divers or for history lovers. A great gift for any diver. As far as Factuality goes check out Decostop, Kohler is a member there and goes into some of the discrepencies between accounts in the last dive vs. shadow divers. Fantastic book.

Actually, Bernie wasn't there. He found out from a phone call later on. I subscribe to Bernie's magazine, Immersed, and e-mailed him this morning with the question. And he responded. I asked him for his thoughts on the discrepancy. He was very gracious towards Kurson's book. He did state that he one of the divers on the Seeker typed a lengthy document about what happened that day and mailed him a copy for his research. He also states another diver that was on the Seeker that day spoke to him about "factual errors" in Shadow Divers.

Shadow Divers was a very good book and generally a more entertaining reading. However, The Last Dive, IMO, was more informative and went more into the psychology of tec deep divers.[/QUOTE]

Yes, your right Rob. I forgot that Bernie wasn't there and that he heard it over the phone. I also agree about your comparison of the books as well. Does Bernie's magazine have a website? I would love to check it out.

Where is this information on Decostop? I can't seem to navigate the site.

Just enter Kohler under Search and you should get all of Richie posts.

Too bad for me. I just signed up at The Deco Stop and I don't have access yet. I'll have to check back tomorrow.

I saw in previous posts from Richie Koler's nephew Frank, who is a member on this board that 20th Century is going to make a movie from the book. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I heard about the movie deal. Didn't hear any specifics though.

Great book! Not only does it give you the history of the dives and how they discovered it, etc...it goes into the victims (German sailors) lives and puts that part into perspective...

Well written and very informative to boot! (no pun intended)

I just finished Last Dive and that was another good read Looking for more books like it!
I had just finished Shadow Divers ten minutes ago. Amazing. I am 28 and have NEVER read a book cover to cover and that includes 5 years of college. I just skim pages for info and am a big fan of cliff notes. Ever since I bought this I have been glued to it. When I got to the end and saw the pictures of the sailors, I had felt I knew them. Actually, if any have seen The Never Ending Story, the kid lives the story and thats how it made me feel. I felt like I was in the wreck myself. Anyway, you should be able to tell that I liked it.
