I just purchased my first tank today (PST E-7 HP 100) and am looking for recommendations on the best place to get it filled either in SF or Monterey.

Are most shops able to get tanks close to 3500, or is there some variation? I don't really care if it's full to the brim, but would hate to get a 3000 psi hot fill and end up with less gas than I had using rented AL80s.

Also, I'm planning to get nitrox certified in a few weeks. Do any shops provide air fills that won't ruin the tank's 02 clean status?

Oh, and while I'm at it, if I have the tank filled with banked nitrox, does it have to be O2 clean? I'll probably learn this in my nitrox class, but would be nice to know before I go and dirty up my tank.

Thanks!

I got my tank (same tank) filled at the Aquarius dive shop over in Monterey right next to Breakwater and they filled it perfectly to just below 3500 (should be 3442).

Monterey Bay Dive Center has hyperclean air as far as i know, so that won't affect your nitrox fills, that's only important if the tank has been 02 cleaned..if it hasn't any shop that does blending won't touch it anyway...

As long as they're not doing partial pressure fills and you're not exceeding 40% O2, you don't need to have the cylinders O2 clean.

sorry thats what i meant, if it is preblended then you don't need them to be 02 clean, if they are adding 100% oxygen to teh tanks first they must be 02 clean...

Thanks.

I think it comes O2 clean, so I'm going to try to keep it that way if possible. If it doesn't come clean, I'll have it cleaned when I get my VIP (I think it's being shipped without its valve).

Pretty much anyplace can give you a high pressure air fill but often shops with banked EAN36 can't without hammering air into it hence diluting the mix to closer to EAN32. You should always use "hyper-clean" air if you intend to make it a Nitrox tank because then your future mixing options are not limited.

i know my lds doesn't believe that the tank is properly 02 clean, and they are cleaning my 2 new ones before i pick them up..

I fill my E7-100 tanks at Manta ray dive center on a regular basis and have always received good full fills plus my tanks are O2 cleaned.

PST says the tanks come from the factory O2 clean but the valves are only nitrox compatible(good for mixes upto 40%. Manta ray O2 cleaned my tanks, valves and provided the VIP sticker for partial pressure fills. Manta ray also doesnt require the stupid nitrox wrap sticker like all of the other shops.

Aquarius dive shop on delmonte banks 36% nitrox.

Sounds like Manta is the way to go. Do you recall what they charged to 02 clean your tanks and how long it took them to do it?
