People tend to neglect their secondary because they do not use.
And that is the actual problem. A neglected secondary, regardless of whether that secondary is the same as your primary, will have the same outcome.
I probably use my secondary for 5 or 10 minutes on a dive, if every diver did that, I doubt that anyone would neglect their reg. At that point they can get it tuned properly and then decide whether it needs replacement.
I encourage divers to try different configurations, not because I think one is best, but one may be best for them. Also, because when I started there were no choices.
