Morning All: I am new to the forum. Our family is heading down to Maui next week staying in Kihei. My sons and I are interested in going diving for a day. We are PADI certified and dive once a year on vacations. Any recommendation on dive locations and more importantly a reputable dive shop we can book an excursion for a day. Many thanks, we are looking forward to getting away from the cold/snow up here in Calgary

B&B Scuba or Mike Severns. Both leave (early) from the Kihei Boat Ramp. B&B are just nice people, on the Severns boat you'll learn something on the way to the site as they have naturalists etc. on board. They're going to take you to Molokini Crater - it's the signature dive in that area. From the beach it's the little half-submerged volcano cone you see out in the water - the one with all the dive boats nearby...

I think B&B has the bigger boat now also - nice for the return ride when the tradewinds pick up. With either you'll be back before noon.

If you're interested in escorted shore diving instead, Shaka Divers or Maui Dreams Dive Co are good options. MDDC is the place for tank rentals also should you decide to go out on your own later.

There are several good local dives in that area with easy beach entries starting with #'s 11 and down on this list.

My choices would be Wailea Beach, Polo Beach or Makena Landing for annual divers.
Parking may be a problem unless you go early. Watch for the sailing cats if you surface in deeper water - you won't hear them coming.

The water has been awesome this week. Check out these turtles! Check out this Viz!!

I'm with diversteve. B&B does a VERY good job with beginners and inexperienced divers, and they are nice folks.

The shore diving in that part of Maui is very nice, and if the surf isn't up, the entries aren't difficult. (You can be sure of this, because I manage to get in and out without falling down, and I am decided not good at surf entries!) You will see many of the same animals on the shore dives that you will in the crater (morays, turtles) but you most likely will not see sharks.

If you want to have a real blast, go scooter diving with scubahawk27 on these forums. He also has a website www.mauiscooterdivers.com . I go on these every time when I go to maui, Tey are a BLAST.

If you want a slightly later departure or an afternoon charter, check with Maui Dive Shop. They also provide transportation from the resort areas if you need it. They do a great job with the beginner/once a year diver.

if you're interested in a quality shore diving experience with personalized service, check with Shaka Doug!!

B & B!! Recently spent almost 3 weeks on Maui, and did lots of boat diving with them! They are super!! :blinking:
