In lieu of a metal boltsnap, I use a plastic quick release clip like this.

Great video. Definitely something to practice when diving with the long hose setup. I am also very jealous of his buyoncy. Lots more work/diving to do for me. Ha!

I know that guy really well. The only good quality he has is buoyancy control.

What does this complex solution offer that a small boltsnap does not with fewer parts, less bulk and danglies and none of it plastic (unless you use a plastic boltsnap)?

If you are going Hog(arthian) then go Whole Hog .

Maybe the pictures don’t do it justice, actually quite compact and the plastic quick release is easier to me than a metal boltsnap.

'Didn't like the weight of the bolt snap, nor it rubbing against second stage cover. Got this idea off another Scubaboard divers post. Rubber O-ring from hardware store affixed with Brett B Hemphill's method. Use working double ender to secure to chest d-ring.

If the (small) bolt snap is rubbing the cover that is because it is not correctly installed. Generally about one fist (of space) from the second stage connection to the position of the bolt snap attachment to the hose is correct and prevents rubbing and any interference.

I use a medium bolt snap on the long hose and been using it since I started in 2009. I don't even know its there when its in my mouth. Everything I have uses a medium except my primary reel which is a large. In any case you should only have two things on your right chest D-ring at any one time and that is your backup light and the long hose and the only time the long hose is clipped off is when setting up your gear or when you have a problem with that reg at depth and you are breathing off your necklace reg.

Way I was taught, way I dive and it works for me.
