It only happens during my work week while I'm trying to sleep. I did sneak in four and one half hours this time. 1220 hours yesterday (Friday 3/16) the pager goes off. "Team Activation for Body Recovery Timbell/Hazeldean. This is a area east of a small town called Waterford. Seems our victim went out fishing on March 11th and hasn't been seen from since. That is, until one of our deputies finds a tackle box and fishing pole with no one around. 10 feet below, our missing person.

The recovery was pretty straightforward. He was floating face down in Dry Creek at the bottom of a 10 foot drop. After carefully searching the top area and having our ID unit photograph every twig, branch and small pebble, we had two divers suit up and rappel in. Again, another search around the victim turned up nothing out of the ordinary. The creek was barely flowing and was 3 1/2 feet deep were the victim was located. The theory is, his fishing line gets snagged and he tries to tug it free. He tumbles down the bank and is either knocked out or breaks his neck and goes into the water. From his condition, he has been in the water a couple of days.

We package the guy up for the Coroner's deputy and hoist him up the bank. We then returned to the hanger to decon our gear and de-brief. All the guys came home and are doing good mentally. This is a very tight group of guys and a lot was laid out at the de-brief today, which makes me feel comfortable that everyone is good. Two in a week is a bit much. This second guy was 35 years old and had his fair share of run ins with the law. Homocide detectives are doing their thing with the case, but all outward appearences say it was accidential.

Another job well done to you and your team! Hope you manage to stay dry for a while.

John
