Great information here- thanks everyone! I'm also planning my first liveaboard to the Channel Island this August and tend to get seasick so I'd like to get this all sorted out in advance. One question for everyone. One of the things that sets me off is smells as noted by others here. In addition to the usual suspects (diesel fumes, the head, etc) the smell of neoprene on a boat will often times make me queasy. Has anyone tried putting a little dab of Vicks or something strong-smelling under their nose to mask other smells? Is this a good idea, or is a strong smell like Vicks likely to make me sick itself?

Thanks,
John

A dab of vaseline in each nostril works pretty well at keeping smells out (old coroner trick).

Also, when I want to try out a medication or method to prevent seasickness I have someone drive me around town turning lots of corners while I read a book...DEFINITELY lets me know if the stuff is working (the sea-bands are a no-go for me).
