In past searches for spearos, the speargun is a very key item that we looked for. (& found). If a spearo loses consciousness underwater it is one of the very 1st things dropped or left and usually very close by. Finding it also provides clues. Is the gun still loaded with line wrapped?, Gun unloaded but line cut? Shaft in, but line loose? No shaft - no line. If the floating gun was found on the beach that provides clues too. And lastly the gun not found, which means it very well may be with the diver and it's a good bet the diver made it to the surface{/speculation}...... No equipment. Nothing.-(
Just to add, most boats are setup with bottom finder transducers tuned optimally in the 100-200 range that gives the clearest picture on a side scan machine. In that shallow of depth, they may need to get a Fisher towable side scan that is dialed in for that shallow. If you can match the depth with the right transducer, you can get unbelievably clear pictures that will find the gun easily. Typically they are used in fresh water lake searches.
When we search, we always tell everyone "Find the gun" because it can hold many clues even if the diver is never found. I know many of the people searching and they are incredibly talented divers. If there's a clue, they'll find it.
