Not to be confused to the one rescued in Malta a few days ago 14 miles away on the opposite side of the island...

The Armed Forces of Malta are searching for a diver reported missing off Marsascala.

The search is being carried out at sea by the Melita 2 launch and from the air by helicopter.

The diver was reported missing in an area some three miles off Munxar Reef.

More details as and when available.

Search was still ongoing earlier today

Some known facts:
  • this diver was part of an unaccompanied group (no local divemaster/instructor present)
  • this diver was diving closed circuit with 3 stage/bailout cylinders
  • the dive was on the Polynesien wreck (65m)

There were no more searches today.

2nd hand information:
After leaving the wreck, the diver was looking at his camera and was washed off the shot line by the strong current.

His SMB was seen from the boat and kept in sight. But after the planned deco time had passed, there was no diver underneath the SMB.
