Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a BC with wings? I am not familiar with the "wings" part. What is the purpose? pros/cons?

BP with wings is a bouyancy control device that has a metal piece in the middle (backplane, or BP for short), with a "wing" attached around it -- the bladder. It amounts to a simplistic back-mount BC, and is favoured by the DIR crowd and other technical divers for its streamlined-ness.bahamasita:
