the original thread was lost when SB got nu|<3d back in june..
so, here's a semi re-creation, a re-visit, and an update to the dive-helmet saga..

but first.. here are links to the [not so] abridged slide-show version of the story..

from initial find of the dive-helmet on 8 june 2007..

okay..
six months ago.. 16 december 2006.. jo holding the old fashioned dive-bell-helmet..
which he hid somewhere deep within the Sea Tiger..
to motivate his wreck-diving students to explore the shipwreck..
here's jo's techie website.. HaTeD http://www.hawaiitechnicaldivers.com/

on 8 june 2007.. after six months of looking.. and a dozen or so dives on the sea tiger..
I FOUND IT !!! the hidden dive-bell-helmet !! FIRST ONE TO FIND IT =)

and finally, an update.. on 17 august 2007.. i went to visit the dive-helmet again..
and IT WAS GONE =( only a divot in the silt remained..
all i found was a few old bowling balls in the bottom of the forward hold..
did jo take the helmet back?
did jim move it? to another part of the ship? to another shipwreck?
do tell.. THE GAME IS AFOOT !!! :eyebrow:

You must be narced on air or something, or left your spare brain behind 'cause Jay says he saw it yesterday...

Bowling balls for the win?

lol.. bowling at 115fsw..

how'd they get those down there?
precision bombardiers from the dive boat? or lift-bag?
[reminds me of the prank-call to your local bowling alley:
"excuse me.. do you have 10 lb balls?"]

hmmm.. now we just need a set of bowling pins down there.. [hint, hint]
and i could bowl a strike! :eyebrow:

omg! one of YOU guys moved the helmet! 'fess up!

The white tip pictures are cool!

Question, was the guy with the deco bottle and a snorkel trained by Sherman? :)

yup...then again people don't wear a snorkel (tech), solo dive, penetrate wrecks without a line during my classes...however to each their own (really I mean that), you know my philosophy but I am not the scuba police either :) I can lead'em to the KOOL AID...but I can't make'em drink it.

Nice pics.

yes, that pic was a cluster.
deco bottle was on a 50ft line in kick'n current.. kite'n at 20fsw.
it was fun lettin' go the mooring line.. [leap of faith]
then maneuvering drift to intercept the bottle at a good clip..
'planned to snap it onto my rig.. but the current was too strong to risk it.
so, 'just breathed it and bunched up the line on ascent.
btw.. it wasn't for deco.. it was volume for a "3-tanker".

as for tech.. i can strive to dive DIR.. as long as we pre-brief.
i think i'm fairly good at flying wing, trail, or lead.. again, as long as it's briefed.
otherwise, recreational.. the same-ocean-buddy-concept applies.

Seeing as how I just barely based DIR-f I am now certified to officially tell you that diving with a snorkel will kill you!!!!

Being sarcastic of course. I'm just not use to seeing snorkels now a days.

Why didn't you just leave the bottle clipped? Got in the way with penetration?

yep.. 'crawled thru that entire wreck with a deco bottle.. [cumbersome]
other times 'clippped the bottle to my primary tie-off..
'have even just left it laying upside down inside the initial cargo hold [just before the grate]..
and now, i've left it on a 50ft tag-line..
[the latter doesn't work so well in a strong current =/ ]
