@iain/hsm The total lack of footage makes me believe this didn't happen while moored close to other boats on a busy reef. Or even at a busy reef period.

Going to a lob trip in Egypt is starting to be as risky as climbing the Everest. It should’nt be. But I really think divers should stop to go there in order to see some improvements. If we keep going there despite all the accidents, I don’t see why things would really improve.

Last two LoB accidents were caused by storms/severe weather. I would say this is a matter of exercising common sense. At the end of the day the LoB trips in Egypt are quite cheap and if you see a weather forecast with 30+mph winds for the next 7 days it's not like you cannot just forfeit the relatively modest LoB cost and go see the major tourist attractions which are plenty in this country.
If everyone shows in the Marina eager to start the trip despite the bad weather and perhaps puts some pressure on the company to deliver it's a bit unfair to blame it just on the Egyptian crews, to jump on the conclusion that diving there is inherently unsafe etc etc.

It is easy to see how people involved in LoB operations in other parts of the world would want to se the very cheap competition from Egypt obliterated. On the other hand, of course safety comes first and the decision to sail should be with the sailing crew, not with the company owner and certainly not with the passengers. Sadly we can all remember quite a few famous incidents where ship owners or famous/important passengers altered the decision making process, resulting in major catastrophes...

Every country’s embassy and consulate are routinely dealing with citizens who have lost their passports, it’s a minor inconvenience to lose it.
Depends on which country you are from, but of course not worth losing your life trying to retrieve it.

Well the "competition" doesn't sail in the Red Sea, so I fail to understand really why they are real competition because selling your LOB is more than just the LOB, it's also the location.

Note that the Dive Pro vessel Sea Pearl has also been documented to have escape hatch problems.

They say that there is no education in the second kick of a mule. For the owner of Dive Pro, apparently no number of kicks of a mule will lead to safety improvements.

This is the interesting part it's early days but the reference quote is as follows below:

"This happened at 5:30am in the morning: that boat has sunk and it was lying on its side, with all the boats around it," There’s absolutely no reason why no one would have gone in and tried to rescue the others".

Now you know where all the boats were I guess

My buddy pitched a trip down there shortly after we got back from Cocos last year. After a few minutes of research I thumbed it. Threads like this are the reason why.

Who are the top notch liveaboards there that can be trusted? Anyone knows?
I I've heard good things about VIP One from acquaintances. Vita Xplorer has a recent positive review on Undercurrent. Scuba Scene had good reviews . . . but that was before it burned to the waterline. Oh, and the first boat on liveaboard dot com's list is the Tillis. Go figure.
