I purchased two new Sea and Sea YS D3 Mark 2 strobes in the summer of 2021.

The power control nob on both strobes has failed not allowing me to control the power on the strobe. The power nob has broke free within the strobe and spins 360 degrees without changing the power output. My question is whether any other members have experienced the same issue.

I was recently on a liveaboard with a guy who was shooting a D850 with two YS-D3s and had the power knob break on one of them, but, if I remember correctly, it was just the plastic part that broke off and he was able to jury rig a makeshift handle in its place. That wasn't his first failure either, he had a long tale of warranty exchanges and repair bills.

Yes this happened to me today 😢 yesterday it wasn’t turning well and today totally 360 and no clicks. Did you work out a fix for it by chance?

Has there been any update on this issue? I am looking at possibly upgrading my strobes and the YS-D3II is one of the strobes I am considering but not if Sea&Sea has such (apparently) serious quality control or design flaw issues.

I stopped buying Sea&Sea strobes a while ago, the last ones were D2's. I had maybe 7-8 strobes and they all fail. Flooding, malfunctions, bulb not working...
I met people who were sponsored by Sea&Sea and they went through 10 strobes in a span of 2 years so there's your answer. There's no reliability. How can anyone take them on an Liveaboard knowing this is beyond me.

I've used YS-D1s for about 12 years now and have had great luck. That's been about 1000 dives and countless thousands of flashes. I just decided it was time to upgrade and I bought a pair of YS-D3 Duos. My first trip with them will be next month. I decided on the D3s after reading many reviews and comments here, on Waterpixels, and Wetpixels. All UW strobes (all UW photographic equipment for that matter) require constant TLC. Based on my own experience, talking to many other photographers on trips, and doing lots of research, I'm very happy with S&S.

After my February trip with my new D3s, I'll tell you if I'm still happy!

I only had issues with the D2s and even the D2Js

My D3s have done around 200 dives now, and touch wood, functioning well.

I still own and use a pair of YS110a s when I have a couple of housings with me and only concerned with macro.
