Hi.

Can someone give an opinion on these cameras ? I was thinking on getting a G7 which I've read a lot of reviews here, but the two sd models are smaller and in the case of the sd 900 (or ixus 900 Ti) have the same 10 MP and ccd size 1/1.8" but the G7 as manual focusing . Does the 900Ti as the same performance as the G7? what are the main differences ? I was also planing on getting a canon housing WP-DC7,WP-DC15 or WP-DC11 in the case of G7.

Thanks ;)

Have a look at the side-by-side reviews on www.dpreview.com

These are completely different cameras for completely different needs. In a teeny nutshell, the G7 will give you tons of control and options; the SD range are built as pretty true point&shoots with no manual controls for aperture and shutter.

It really depends on what your needs/goals are for uw photography. The SDs are fantastic little go-anywhere cameras and can produce nice results underwater but they won't grow with you. If you want something in-between these have a look at the A series.

Two big advantages of the G7 is that it can shoot in RAW and the Ikelite housing for it has TTL.

I understand the appeal of the SD series' small size. It is very handy for traveling and the WP case is small. However, I stayed away from the SD series because of the lack of manual controls. All shooting modes are automatic with little control by the photographer.

I prefer the A-series, specificly the A570is. Much greater control options for shutter, aperature, white balance, etc. I really like the image stabilization too.

You can do a comparison of features on the Canon Powershot web site:

zahner:
since when can the G7 shoot in RAW? is there a firmware upgrade out there?

Nope, bad memory on may part. When I bought my A620, the other two cameras I was considering were the G6 and the Olympus C-5050. I thought I remembered reading both the G series and the 5050 had RAW, but it looks like only the 5050 does. Thanks for the correction.
