I jumped right into a 1 piece harness after only 60 or so dives in my career, I find it MORE comfortable than a jacket.
Most divers who switch to a BP/Wing with a hogarthian one piece harness find them to be more comfortable and far more stable in the water than a jacket BC.

i know i did. i used my scubapro glide pro for my skills. its a great jacket and ill probably continue to use it here and there just to stay familiar with different setups etc. but i did my dive in a bp/w and found that i liked it more. it just felt better in the water.

In OW they said that new divers find them harder because they "put you on your face" on the surface. I found the complete oposite. It allowed me to lay back much easier for surface swims than the jacket which always forced me to be feet down.

As for underwater, it was like the effort I had to put into keeping myself in trim just went away. I dont even think about it anymore.

That and I cant stand having the bladder in front of my chest pushing other gear out away from me. That and my drysuit is front entry so the inflate valve is a little off center, the jacket makes it tougher to get to the inflate valve. I tried on a comfort type tech harness and found the chest buckle to get in the way of that valve too, so I went with the 1 piece.

Thanks for the different contributions.

Finally I opted for a Scubapro Pro Tek harness ;)
