Anyone know how to disassemble and rebuild this SPG. (circa ca 1990). The ring/cowl is not threaded and seems to have been pressed in place permanently with a sizing tool. Thanks

Short of fabricating a new ring and finding a way of crimping it back on I don't think there is any practical way to rebuild these. Other than cleaning up the mechanism inside there is not much you could do to rebuild these anyway.

I think you are correct. It's too bad that it can't be disassembled and cleaned, because it is a nice, solid, heavy brass gauge, and easy to read.

I can't see a photo but I think I know what guage you are talking about. I have attempted to rescue one of those that was flooded due to the press fit retaining ring loosening. After pulling it apart and cleaning it I used an arbor press to compress the ring onto the body. While maintaining pressure on it I peened the ring back into the groove with a punch. It was a pain in the butt, took a long time, and in the end the guage was ugly and still didn't work. I wouldn't recommend messing with it unless you are really desperate for something to eat up a bunch of your free time. They are nice guages when they work though.
