Hello Everyone,

A question for any Scubapro servicing expert out there, please.

Particularly on a S600 2nd stage, does anyone know what this slim plastic pointing toward the mouthpiece, clipped to the right side of the VIVA pane in the photo, is? It doesnt appear to be in the service manual.

Also, noting the directionality of the crescent notch of the VIVA pane pointing toward the mouthpiece, is this reg currently set to the "minimal VIVA" setting? Does that mean that even in dive mode, less venturi assist, ie, less gas delivery?

Thank you very much!

Brian

The Flow Reducer shown on your pics is generally not supposed to be there. It is used in the R-series with its notorious strong VIVA Assist.
And yes, with its current configuration is the VIVA Assist is set on minimum on your 2nd.
That doesn't mean less air, but 'slower' air.
I can only imagine that the VIVA in this particular S600 has been extremely strong (can happen) and the technician tried first to turn the Flow vane.
When the strong VIVA was still force feeding the diver with air he tried to further reduce the VIVA with the Flow Reducer of the R-Series.
Put the Flow Vane in middle or minimum position (before push the Flow Reducer out) and press the purge button deep.
If the 2nd keeps on free flowing after stopping purging then the VIVA is too strong. Try the same with the Flow Reducer in place and see what happens.
For whatever reasons it happens sometimes that SP 2nds of the G, R or S- Series develop a much stronger VIVA than intended.
Then a Flow Reducer can help to make the air stream more turbulent, reducing the laminar air stream and so reducing the VIVA Assist........
