Embedded in the evolution of regulator designs was a unique second stage manufactured by Scubapro named the "Pilot". The demand function of this second stage was different then other second stages as it utilized a "pilot or slave valve" to open the primary valve. The Pilot second stage valve produced exceptional performance, especially at extreme depths. The Pilot second stage was also acquired and extensively used by the U.S. Navy Experimental Diving Unit. This second stage adequately supported the six man dive team of the NEDU Deep Dive '79, performing "in water work" at a world record depth of 1800 feet sea water. While this type of diving goes well beyond any conceivable sport divng limits, the significance of this second stage performance is remarkable by any standard.
The parts inventory offered here is extensive, and consists of both new and reclaimed Pilot second stage parts. The reclaimed parts are parts that were returned to Scubapro in exchange for AIR 1 second stage parts during the early 1980's. This complete parts inventory is to be sold as a "single unit" and is best suited for the professional repair technician who has the training to service the Pilot second stage.
Included with this parts inventory are the four tools used in servicing the Pilot second stage. These tools are a #193 pin spanner, a 3/32" ball tipped hex key driver, a spring bending tool for the Pre/dive spring, and a cover installation tool. Also included in this offer is a Pilot second stage schematic and an original Scubapro colored O'ring chart.
The following are notes regarding specific parts included in this inventory: 1.) It is recommended that fresh o'rings be acquired as replacement parts when servicing this second stage. These o'rings are availabe either from Scubapro or directly from Parker o'ring suppliers. 2.) The three chrome plated brass cases included in the reclaimed parts list are used condition, but are dent free and can be rebuilt as is or they are suitable for rechroming. 3.) The silicone diaphragms are new and in excellent condition. 4.) some of the new chrome plated parts show some slight scratches. 5.) Both new and used parts are individually bagged and marked with the part description, part number, and quantity. The used (reclaimed) parts are in a separate bag and each individual bag is also marked "used". 6.) There is additinal information on the Pilot second stage design in a book titled " Regulator Savvy" on pages 94-101. The book is available on the web site: www.scubatools.com.
