I am looking at a used MK25 TIS 1st stage. Is the TIS model of the MK25 worth investing in, the price is around $70:00

I used to use this reg for cold water diving. The TIS thing is a gimick, IMHO. Not a good cold water reg.

For warm water it is fine and seeing as how your profile shows you in HI, that is a good bullet proof reg for $70.

You make it sound like the MK25 is a crappy first stage and $70 it's alright for warm water.

To OP check out eBay and $70 for mk25 is a great price, they usually go for $150 to $250. The MK25 is an excellent reg if not the best reg out. Granted it's not a sealed reg like the MK17 but some have used it in water temp less than 40*F.

I use the Mk25 reg all the time here, thankfully I am not a cold water diver, the temp was only 8 C in the water and -1 C on the surface. All well within the advertised and tested limits of Mk25. oh and certified too.... I would not use my regulator combo A700/Mk25 under the ice in Antarctica, but if warmer than that I would.

I walk the walk when it comes to my regulator performance and feel that as long as I use it within the tested/certified lmits of the regulator it will work flawlessly as lifesupport equipment. Oh, lets not forget US Navy testing of gear and any cold water ocean diver that says the Scubapro Mk25 doesn't work hasn't seen the results. There are not alot of 1st stages that the US Navy lists at 190' and 38 F and the ScubaPro Mk25 is one of them

$70 for a MK25 is a great deal. All the MK25s are "TIS", that's scubapro's coating-and-bushing anti freeze system. Unless you're diving in extremely cold water, like sub 40F, I wouldn't worry about it.

What second stage are you going to use with it?
