Have you ever heard about ScubaPro MK2 TIS KIT?

Thermo Insulating System Kit ( kit antifreeze) for regulator MK2 to be used when water temperature is below 10ºC(50ºF)

I have used MK2 below 50F many times without any issues though. I am wondering if you have any info about this kit.

Thanks in advance,

I'm not sure why you would need a TIS with a flow-by piston design with limited flow rates. My schematics are not that current but I'm guessing it is one of those plastic bushings between the spring and the piston. (Cost $1 - price increase $10) I'd suspect it might be more of a marketing gimmick than a performance improvement.

Just curiosity. :)

I haven't heard about this one on MK2 before. We haven't covered this kit on our board as I believe.

The bushing that you mentioned is already included in an annual service kit.

I don't think it is the same one. The kit price is over $20.

SP basically puts TIS kits in everything as the default antifreeze protection so there is not a Mk 25 TIS or a Mk 2 TIS, just Mk 25's and Mk 2's with the current TIS parts.

That said, "TIS" is more or less a moving target in all of SP's first stages as they make periodic improvements. Most of the improvements are retrofittable into older first stages and that retrofit usually occurs at the next annual service as new TIS upgrade parts are usually included in the annual service kits for a few years after they are introduced.

It is in fact one of the ways that an SP tech who has been around awhile can tell how long ago the first stage was last serviced.

Ocassionally a TIS improvement like a piston bushing may require a new piston and that is not automatically upgraded, but could be added during an annual service for the cost of the piston or what ever other major part must be replaced.

The last MK2 kit that I bought had a plastic bushing that went on the opposite side of the spring, not against the piston head. My MK2, which is only a couple of years old, has no bushing against the piston. Maybe the "TIS" on mine is the coated spring only.

As for an annual kit and recent MK2, that is my understanding as well.

I am just wondering if there are any particular parts for TIS.
