Any recommendations for touching up the letters for better visibility on a mark X?

Also, is the din fitting on a pre 95 oceanic piston cross compatible with a mk5? I have a mk5 spec I would like to switch it onto

You’ve got two of the best regulators ever designed in this case. The Scubapro Pilot is without peer, and the A.I.R. I is a close second. I have both, and still dive them. The Pilot is an interesting regulator, depending upon O-rings almost entirely in the second stage. I’d replace all but the tiniest O-ring, and dive that regulator if I were you. It should be readily rebuilt with new O-rings. If you wish to rebuild it, here’s a thread on the Vintage Scuba Community Forum that will be of great help.

Do the older SP MK2 DIN connectors with a metal hand wheel fit on a MK5 ?
No. But….I have a friend who used to be on this board, very knowledgeable guy, who had a work around for setting up DIN on a MK5. He used the SP universal retainer, which has the land for the side sealing o-ring, and then used two brass washers to make up for the 2 mm extra length of the MK5 retainer. If you could find a 2 mm thick stainless (or brass) spacer that fits well in the inlet cavity, the idea is that this allows you to properly torque the DIN retainer without stressing the threads or metal around the area. The seal is provided by the o-ring, which in this case is nowhere near the spacer.

I haven’t tried this because I have a couple of MK5 DIN retainers, but if I decide to set up another MK5 as a stage reg (they are ideal for this IMO) then I might try it.

A fiber laser would do an absolutely bang-up job on that. You would need a high quality image of an original to make it easy on the laser engraver. Or it could be done with a diode laser (far more of those around!!!!) if they prep the surface with a dry moly lube spray.
