It appears that there are several Scuba Manufacturers sales reps. on this board. What do you guys think?

I know an instructor/dive shop owner/sales rep that reads this board, but I'm not sure he has ever posted. I don't know all the lines he reps for, but I do know of two.

What are you asking?

Tom

I think they're here but keeping quiet so they don't get deluged with complaints about equipment issues...

Tom

I'd be pretty surprised if there weren't any manufacturers' reps on the board. After all, part of their job SHOULD be keeping in contact with people who use their products. It doesn't bother me as long as they identify where they are coming from when they endorse equipment that they sell.

I would not like to find out that they were posting favorable opinions about their gear (or negative comments about their competitors products) while attempting to seem as though they are in an unbiased position.

Agree with Otter-cat but I've never noticed any attempts to plug a particular maufacturer or product - at least if it has happened it's been done so subtly that I've missed it.

I started a discussion a couple of weeks ago on how dive shop owners thought of their suppliers.

The post was removed .

If there are any reps on this board please PM me and tell me who your are with. I am trying to start a dive shop . It seems like the reps want us to go to them , then hassle us over getting a dealer app and make a big deal of it.

As a purchasing manager in my day job I am used to reps begging me to buy and sell their products not the other way around.

Is it any wonder the industry is in the shape it is in ?

Ron

Ron,

EXACTLY...That is why the industry is in the shape it is in. You are exactly correct. I am a LDS owner and would love to help you out. It just seems VERY APPARENT to me that Halcyon and Apeks manufacturers are on this board pushing their equipment in one form or the other. I just had a guy come in last week that wants to get rid of his Halcyon and go back to DiveRite. He is a 3 + decade cave diver. THE MAN KNOWS what he is doing. The local GUE guy talked him into buying the Halcyon. Nothing against Halycon but you would think that it's better than penacillon by the way a few board members talk about it. I've inquired into the Halcyon dealership for my shop. I have had one request for it.

And who would that be, Mr. McCarthy? :)
