If he changes his reg choice, it will substantially change the package price. The Mk16 is a fine
all purpose reg, although it is a s/p close-out is still in production with Tusa (they bought the patent). I've had my Air2 for 17 years and is a little beat up but works just fine and thankfully
I've never had to use it in an out of air situation. I would go with the deal just as it is, by the
way, your getting a price well below what they are even allowed to sell it for, and to get the
manufacturers warranty - you can't beat that.

I would go with the octo over the air2. less thinking if you have to use it.

Im not sure if your LDS price matches but here is a link

Dolphin in Stockton is the LDS i use. Which of the S/P packages do you think is the best in the 1200 dollar range?

I've been tossing around the idea of getting the Knighthawk (dove it a few times and really enjoyed it) or going with the Dive Rite setup.

I know nothing of the computers or the regs.

Getting ready to do a two boat dive down in the Channel islands and I would love to get a package like this before the trip.

The Mk 16 is virtually identical to the Mk 17 except for the extra HP port and the sealed ambient chamber on the Mk 17. Scubapro annual service kits for the Mk 16 upgrade the Mk 16 seat carrier to the newer Mk 17 configuration so performance and mechanical reliability is identical. The Mk 16 is not sealed, but it is none the less very reliable in cold water so unless you are headed for Antartica, the Mk 17 is probably overkill and not worth passing on a good package deal.

There are two groups of people - those who like Air 2's and those who don't and the two are not likely to interbreed. The Air 2 works great for most recreational diving and can really help streamline the hose routing. With the Mk 16, if you use a Mk 16 and an Air 2 you will have only 3 hoses if diving a wet suit - the primary second stage, the low pressure inflator/Air2, and the spg hose - and all three can be mounted on the same side of the Mk 16 to enable them to route straight down for a very clean hose routing.

Many of the objections to the Air 2 are eliminated if the system is configured properly. Putting a 5' or 6' hose on your primary will ease any issues in air sharing as the OOA diver will have some room to move and you will both have more room to work while you ascend without the OOA diver feeling like the reg is about to be pulled out of his or her mouth. A slightly longer corrogated inflator hose will also increase your ability to turn your head while breathing on the Air 2. Dumping air from the BC without using the button on the Air 2 while ascending can be done 2 ways - using the right shoulder dump valve on BC's equipped with one, or using the left shoulder dump on the inflator hose asembly by just pushing out slightly on the corrogated hose while ascending which increases the lenght of the hose and opens the dump valve via the steel cable inside the corrogated hose. No need for concern about button confusion at all.

I got the mk17/250v with the prime computer. I really like the setup. Looking back I realized the mk16 or the mk25 would be more than enough for the type of diving I was doing. I was going to upgrade my package to the Mk17 only due to the fact they were going to charge $100 for the Mk17 and $100 g250v. But I lucked out and they upgraded me to the MK17 and the g250v for FREE!! Very Nice I really like the Alladin Prime 3 I like the SmartTrak feature, No more wrighting in my log book its on my cpu. Dolphins price for the mk25/g250hp is a good set up. I like the idea of the swivel for the hp/lp ports.
