Hi all,
I currently have an MK17/G250v Setup that i use i tested out several different regulators and out of all i tried i liked the feel of this one the best "Personally the look" But as of recently i look more and more at the M1 it also seems to be a very good reg. I chose the MK17 due to being sealed and great reviews for cold water as i live in NJ and diver here in Northeast. This is my first year diving So i am considering doing doubles this spring and trying to debate either switching to Atomic M1's and giving my G/F my Scuba pro set-up that she would use she has the same Regs. or just getting another 17/250v

Any thoughts.

Hi,
Bad news first, I dont know which is best, the MK17/G250v or Atomic M1. But I would suggest that you and your G/F use the same brand of regs for the sake of interchangeseability, and should any of you later upgrade the reg. then both would have a spare at hand.
I don't think you gain any thing changing to Atomic, looking through this forum those who use MK17/G250v seems to be happy with that reg.

I don't really understand the interchangeability comment as I have several different types of regs. Both regs are great regs. You aren't going to go wrong with either. They both provide excellent performance and are both a good value. Try them both out and pick the one you like. Atomic can be harder to find dealers for. I would go with what my LDS sold.

Tough question, I say this because of the cold water use. *my personal opinion* I have not used either of those regs in cold water, but I do have lots of experience with both of those regs deep and over 500 hours in the water on each of them.

Cold water use. I don't like the scubapro MK17 design - just me. I like a full piston, like the MK 25 (I own 4 of the MK 25) and the Atomic first stage. So my choice here goes to the Atomic. The down side to the Atomic is the environmental seal and reliance on filling the body cavity with an O2 compatable lube - just adds to the cost of service.

From a service point I like the service interval with the Atomic and I prefer to service the Atomic compared to the MK17.

I like the size of the M1 2nd stage compared to the G250 and the comfort in mouth. They both breath amazingly well.

Just as a note, I wouldn't use the MK25 in cold water, I prefer My DiveRite or my Apeks regs for cold water.

I hope this helps, my choice between these regs goes to the Atomics.

How do you define "cold water"? The MK25 does great in any water warmer than the mid-40's. The high 40's and 50's are still definitely "cold water", but the MK25 has no issues whatsoever with these temps.

Good question, for me cold water is high 40's and colder. I never had a problem with the MK 25, it's just that I prefer do use my Apeks or DiveRite regs in water this cold.

Well as i am in NJ and all water is kinda cold is partly the reason i Chose the MK17 due to its resistance in cold water plus i liked the Idea if it being sealed. I am very happy with MK17/G250V setup i use know. I just liked the look of the atomics and heard alot of good things bout them. I did try out several different reg from Various oceanic, scubapro, sherwood, dive rite before i chose the MK17/G250v to me and my g/f we both agreed it felt the best. I also just got an S600 as my new Octo vs what i had R295.
