Dang, you'd think the insurance companies would give us a break....
Why would they :06: We are their "icing on the cake" or "gravy money". Besides everyone knows suba diving is very expensive so why shouldn't they gouge us also.

Marriage is more of an extreme sport. More people are killed by angry spouses than scuba diving. :)

I agree with those that say Scuba is a kind of sport, maybe an "adventure sport," it does take a certain level of fitness, training, risk, and level-headedness. And come on, you have to be hydrated for it!!! :D No but seriously, I think that it might not be categorized as a "dangerous" extreme sport, but there is nevertheless an amount of risk, if soley because we are venturing into a hostile environment. We can't breathe water, much as Astronauts can't live in the vaccum of space without taking their envrionment with them. I like to make myself believe that anything that we aren't physically or evolutionarily supposed to do carries a bit of that "extreme factor." My competitive mountain biking and Eventing(equestrian sport) involve things that humans aren't "made" to do. Our bones aren't made to easily withstand a crash off a mountain bike course and we sure weren't designed to be strapped to animals and go galloping over huge obstacles. Diving shouldn't be dangerous with the proper training, but there are ways in which diving can be considered an "extreme sport."

My insurance company seems to think so, they denied my application.........

I would hate to be thought of as gravy money....So far, I don't think we've got more than a couple of thousandaires on this board. Please point out to me a gazillion air or two. :eyebrow:

So, are the dive shops hosing us down, and then they own the insurance companies?? :11:

I wouldn't even think to ask my insurance company....although they might think the just hit the motherlode....at least according to jbd. ;)

As far as scuba diving is concerned, my travel insurance has horse riding, jetskis and many other activities identified as more dangerous. Diving to certification doesnt even require a premium.

I can't believe that trained divers, who should know better, would classify diving as an extreme sport. The only extreme sport of a day of diving is taking a chance on getting killed while driving in a car on the way to the dive boat. That's where you are really taking your life for a chance.
