Hi,
I am and advanced open water diver traveling arround central america and I want to go further with my certifications. I would like to take an internship in a dive center and do my rescue and divemastrer certifications while working at the center. I am considering some locations in costa Rica and Honduras. Does anybody know how this dive internships work? Is it possible to get the certifications in exchange for work? Any experiences? Recomendations?
Thanks a lot!

Ramon

Hola Ramon, we have an internship at go pro that in exchange for helping out you can get a discount on your divemaster training. I say helping out most days are generally 7 - 3 or less and most of the students then spend time at the beach surfing or chilling so it's not too strenuous. PM if. You want anymore info!

Yes, I am interested! Could you give me more information i.e. prices and duration of the program, what the work consist of, location of the center, acommodation facilities...
My email is : rburgues@hotmail.com
Thanks

Utila, Honduras is another place noted for catering to people "traveling around Central America." If you do a Divemaster internship, you can often get discounts, especially if you drag it out long enough  and ingratiate yourself with the shop. But don't expect your "work" as a Divemaster-in-Training to completely pay for the course--it's typically just a discount on extra diving you might want to do. As far as I know, ALL Divemaster interns are expected to help out, as part of their learning process--it's not really considered "work" in the sense of earning compensation.

Check out Utila Dive Center, for example.

West End Divers, West End, Roatan

Also look at Coconut Tree Divers/GoPro Caribbean, West End, Roatan. While they don't offer a discount for work, they seem competitive on the price. They have a course calculator online so you know the actual cost of the program going in. And they have a 13 Bedroom Divemaster house with pool within walking distance where you can rent a room for between $300-450/month and share all the amenities.

Good fun group of people, some friends went there for DM and stayed thru Instructor. We dove with them a week a few years ago and I inadvertently sat in on part of a DM lecture by their CD - Will - mostly because it took place behind me on their deck. Seemed very thorough yet light-hearted. Later those DM's escorted us on dives also.
