I always looking for that 'new paradise' the undeveloped Oasis, with the white Sandy beach and 'just enough' nightlife to keep you from going to bed before 9PM. Getting harder to find all the time. All over the world!
i hear bantayan island off the north coast of cebu is boracay 20 years ago... no diving (i hear) but beach is supposed to be most excellent

yeah virgin islands/beaches are great maybe for a few days, probably if you want to go sentimental. . . or if you live on diving. . . but 3 days is enough for me, else i'll die of boredom . . . but boracay, you can actually live there. sometimes commercialism is good too. Plus the only time i go for some real partying from dusk til the next morning is in that island. Nothing beats Bora during summertime. :)

i guess i'm an old fogey... but i wouldn't pay to go to bora... it's a good thing i get to go there for free (w/c i'm thankful for, mind you), but it's not the place i'd burn hard-earned money on...

so many other options in the country for that...

but that's just me, i'm not a party person

Bora is for party babes...I'd rather stay at the other side of Boracay.

I agree with that! and there are still a lot of places in the Philippines (sicogon, nagarao, lakawon) almost or better than boracay before it became one big Malate on sand :)

I remember my dad doing a model of Sicogon some 20+ years back, that was before Boracay became a name as an island destination.

Are there dive ops there, Jai?

one week in boracay is max for me. i once stayed there for 10 days and the sur-reality (if there ever is a term like that) of the island started creeping up on me. its a nice place to escape to, but i think i would have a hard time adjusting as a local there (not to mention i couldn't do massage for a living since i am so bad at it).

jag, i have been to bantayan when i was a kid. i use to tail around my father when he used to go there to do trades. the beach in the Sta. Fe area is superb, but there were quite a number of "dikyas" then. i dunno about now.

some of my canadian friends live/lived in bora for years.... its all about being able to golf everyday! oh and drink.... and meet girls.... :eyebrow:

You can have your cake and eat it too.........You guys are close to some of the best diving in the Philippines when you are at Boracay. Boracay (AKLAN) is the northwest tip of Panay. If you come south a bit you will be in ANTIQUE. Okay, before someone says it.....no ASWANGS!! There is a three island chain off the coast that ROCKS!!!! So, dive a bit further south and party in BCI!!!!

nope no dive ops there and its pretty remote a bit of an adventure finding. You need to find your way to the island and most probably the accomdations are a bit on the rustic basic side but I think thats what makes it a place going to. I like places that take a bit of a challenge going to, not just hitting it on google and firing of an email to the resort.

I remember that movie of leanardo de caprio "the beach", I think that best shows the two types of beach goers, those who like to go to the most happening beach with lots of partying and those who seek out the less travelled path and want a serene commune with the sea.

that is because, like you Mike, all your friends are rich people. :) rich people can live anywhere and make it convenient for them. money talks, you see. :)
