The Feds (FBI) came into my LDS today. They asked a few questions about any suspicious students in the past 3 yrs. I haven't really had any at all (No middle east folks). He requested a list of all my students over the past 3 yrs. I am happily helping out. So is the other dive shop in town. I'm just curious if they are doing this all over the country????
I often cross the border in to MIchigan with my scuba gear in the summer, I hope this is not going to be a problem with customs now. As it is we are now seeing the biggest line ups ever going both ways between Windsor/Detroit on the bridge or the tunnel.
I have been in the Military now some 16 and a half years, I was stationed at Patuxent River Maryland when Sep 11th happen and was called into a conference room and watched the first tower burn and then the second one get hit. Our base went into a massive shut down with armed personel and snipers at every gate. As the days and nights went by I got more and more sick of what had happen to our country because of some group who did not care for our way of life, beliefs, our freedom... or what ever else was in there sick and twisted minds. This all brought back to my mind something that had happen back on Dec 7th, when another group did the same thing. Both of these groups of people are nothing more than sick cowards who attack women and children and have no backbone to fight against men or women trained in battle. I know most believe that Japan only attacked Pearl Habour and sank some ships, but this is not true, I had the Honor to visit Pearl Habour and view the news reels and see the attack on the Island. Yes the first attack was against warships at Pearl Habour, but what is not told everyday and all the time is that the second wave was on the Island itself where Japan dropped bombs and fired upon innocent women, children without regard and without care. Just as Japan did so did the Taliban attacked innocent men, women and children.... anything that happens to any of them is not enough. Yes granted everyone of them are not to blame and I hope the innocent do not get harmed, but the rest pay and pay BIG. I do not feel my rights are being hurt by having my baggage looked at, and I will be very willing to do whatever is necessary to help put an end to living in possible fear. But being in the Navy and going into Ports overseas my life feels indanger most of the time.
I was waiting for my dive buddy, who is an instructor at the LDS and he was detained for a few min. as the Feds were in asking about suspected terrorists and diving.
A week and a half ago, I accompanied my LDS instructor and an OW class for a pre -check out dive at a local lake. Access to the dam area had been blocked off for some time, but police presence was beefed up, and our group had a friendly, yet thoroughly inquisitive, conversation with them.

We're going over to Pt. Edward to dive Saturday. I know I'll have no problem getting into Canada, but it'll be interesting to see how we're treated coming back.
My LDS is holding an "underwater treasure hunt" in a couple of weeks at a local lake. The locale for the hunt is adjacent to the lakes dam. Immediately after 9/11, the dam area was closed and off limits to all boats and divers. The LDS sent out several e-mails questioning whether or not the annual treasure hunt would be possible this year. Eventually, the dam was reopened and the treasure hunt is officially on. Now (given the new theories about scuba terrorists), Im wonderining if this is still a good idea. There are going to be 150 divers, all diving right next to the dam.
