Thinking of staying at Scuba Club Cozumel in Jnauary. Any feedback? Has anybody stayed there and can offer some insight? Good call or bad? Comparable operations in Cozumel worth considering also?

Thanks

We enjoyed our stay at Scuba Club Cozumel. I wrote a trip report from our stay in January 2005 if you're interested. Scuba Club Cozumel Trip Report

jlyle on this board has written some fabulous trip reports with awesome pictures on Scuba Club Cozumel, I'm sure he'll provide you with links to his reports. He goes there twice a year, I believe.

6 of my 15 trips to Coz have been to SCC. No other facility more than twice yet. There are nicer hotels, better places to eat, better dive ops, better shore dives, softer beds, cheaper way to get a weeks diving, and better beaches. But none put it all together in an affordable easy diving vacation like SCC.

I was there in April.

Loved the room, the food was hit or miss (some good days, some ok, never bad). The focus on diving was good. I even like diving right off the dock there.

Worst margarita I've ever had in my life though. You'd think they'd know how to make one in Mexico, but it was a tourist place, so I'd chalk it up to that. I didn't order another for the rest of the week.

I'm going to SCC in October. I've read their beds are hard, and I'm surprised that the
"all inclusive" package does not include alcohol. So much for AI. It's interesting that their website says "for your convenience rooms do not have phones or TV."
For me the most important thing is the quality of their dive opp. I hope they're as good or better than Deep Blue who I dove with last year.
Most of what I've heard about SCC is very favorable.

We've been to Cozumel twice. The first trip was to SCC; the second trip was a Dive Paradise package at the Hotel Barracuda. Here's my comparison:

Both boats were relatively slow, but Dive Paradise had to stop at more resorts to pick people up. SCC simply loaded up and left. Dive Paradise does, however, offer a smaller, faster boat option.

The all-inclusive option at SCC was a GREAT convieneince for breakfast and lunch. Although we enjoyed our dinners at SCC, we had more fun exploring and eating in town.

On the other hand, it wasn't convenient to get breakfast prior to diving while staying at the Hotel Barracuda. Dining out in Mexico is a much slower paced experience than it is in the U.S. SSC got you a very quick meal in the morning and got you on the boats.

Divemasters with both operations were GREAT. SSC may have been slightly more personalized, as they attempted to have you dive with the same DM all week.

Hotel Baracuda had a TV; SSC did not. We didn't miss the TV, but we do like to check out CNN while on vacation.

SSC had a refridgerator; H.B. did not. This I really missed. At SSC, we enjoyed putting our bottled water in the fridge. The fridge came in handy considering SSC charged quite a bit for alcohol.

In a nutshell, I really liked SSC but would rather eat dinner in town.
